Who Is Joanne Yu?
Anne is a multi-passionate woman born in Manila. She creates from color, memory, and emotion thru painting, writing, singing and piercing herself back together through these various art.
She grew up close to nature, where she first learned to express her inner world through sketches and quiet poems. However, Life led her through unexpected paths. Taking a Multimedia course, becoming a registered nurse — but somewhere along the way, her innate skills in writing and drawing grew quiet.
It wasn’t until recently, finding inspiration again, that she began to remember the parts of her she’d set aside. Realizing that it would have unfolded more beautifully had she not totally let go of the steering wheel and allowed her true self be swallowed whole by waves of heartbreak and struggles. Now she makes her own wheel from drawing and writing tools. Now, she creates with intention: painting, writing, designing not just to express but to heal and connect.
Artist Statement
My work is rooted in introspection, emotion, and color as storytelling. I believe art is a form of self-return; a bridge back to our truest selves. Whether I’m creating monochromatic dioramas in my Chromatherapy series or loosely painting dreams and synchronicities, publishing poetry compilation, or crafting stories, each piece holds fragments of memory, feeling, and transformation.
I guess I create for the seekers, the soft on the inside but definitely multi-faceted... Anyone who’s ever lost and found themselves again; anybody who's now shifting from being soft and highly tolerant to becoming an Empress. But... To be honest... my true specialty is still daydreaming, sitting in solitude, and feeling. And definitely… my resilience.
I am a digital artist, sketch hobbyist, web ui/ux designer, nurse and a self-published poet living in the Philippines. I am currently pursuing my passion for creating art and writing. I was, in the recent five years, picking up on my creative flair and was able to publish my documented beginnings thru an artbook called "Unblocked". It is a book where I shared my first art pieces, my thoughts, the lessons I've learned after being activated again and a few of my poems that relates to the experience. It was more of a test of courage I put myself through. A year later, I published a compilation of 80 poems titled "Deep Beneath My Surface". That is my confirmation I passed my own test. To do it scared, just like they say, and then follow through even though still a little bit scared.
